    Interesting article Claire. The lines of who owns ‘social’ are very blurred at the moment & it’s becoming something of a battle ground.

    I think traditional marketing & PR have a vital role to play but it needs to be owned & guided by an expert. But as a Digital Marketing manager, perhaps I would think that…

      I am inclined to agree with you. While I don’t think we necessarily need more departments, I think existing marketing / PR departments should gain more budget and have a specialist sit within one of their teams.

      Having a marketing/PR background is also important. Social media is part of an evolution in the way we communicate with each other and you need to know where you’ve come from, to understand where you’re going. It is important for someone to take control and ‘specialise’ , but perhaps social media should be treated as a topic within the wider marketing field not as an entirely new discipline.
